About the Between the Rivers Legacy Project

This project was born from a deep personal connection to the history of "Between the Rivers," the land nestled between the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers before the creation of Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. As a descendant of the Lawrence and Forsythe families who once called this area home, I feel a strong responsibility to ensure the stories and memories of those communities are not forgotten.

The Heart of the Project

At the core of this project is a desire to preserve the unique heritage of "Between the Rivers." This involves:

  • I'm actively conducting interviews with individuals who lived in the area, capturing their firsthand accounts of daily life, community traditions, and the impact of the land's transition. These invaluable stories will be preserved and shared to ensure future generations understand this chapter of history.

  • Using technology like QR codes, I'm working to connect visitors of Land Between the Lakes to the stories of those who lived there before. By placing these codes at former home sites and significant locations, visitors can access historical information, photos, and even audio recordings, bringing the past to life.

  • We're inviting everyone with ties to the area to tag the location of their family home on this interactive map. By sharing these locations and stories, we can preserve a vital part of our history.

Help us create a living map of Between The Rivers Residents.
